Advancing Academic Language through Structured Talk

English Learners need daily opportunities to learn and use academic language across the curriculum. To create these opportunities, teachers need expertise in the essentials of academic language, and strategies to structure linguistically-rich peer interactions.

In this interactive training, participants will:

• Identify features of academic language essential for K-8 core success
• Gain strategies for structuring discusssions to build language during content lessons
• Analyze video lessons to identify effective strategies in action
• Use planning scaffolds to collaboratively apply learning to core lessons.
